Resumo: The introduction of laparoscopy in the treatment of gallstones in the late eighties, early nineties in Portugal, raised new challenges in training of surgeons, mainly in treatment of patients with bile duct stones, where it’s an advanced procedure, but also in it’s evaluation. Limitations on training and technical availability, have made endoscopy take advantage to increased costs and further patient complications. In this paper we update the state of art in the treatment of bile duct stones and make an appeal for recentering it’s treatment. Keywords: gallstones, laparoscopy, bile duct, treatment

Keywords: gallstones, laparoscopy, bile duct, treatment A introdução da laparoscopia biliar em finais dos anos 80 em França, e início dos anos 90 em Portugal, criou novos desafios na formação dos cirurgiões. Particularmente na abordagem da litiase coledócica, um procedimento de laparoscopia avançada, mas também na avaliação desta. As limitações na destreza, e as limitações técnicas têm levado a um crescendo de utilização de abordagem endoscópica, o que se traduz num aumento dos custos e das complicações. Neste artigo faz-se uma actualização do estado da arte, e um apelo a uma renovada atenção cirúrgica do tratamento da litiase biliar simples e complicada.
