The today’s debates about violence that hits more the women reveal how gender issues within the family and outside it can create dissensions, dilemmas and confusions. Although the increase of violence on men has also been rising, it is often less than a replica strategy for protecting women. Whatever its nature, violence is associated with structural inequalities within societies and abuse of power, comforted by social structures that encourage gender inequalities. Thus, the attitudes and behaviors of men but also some women are at least paradoxical and continue to test the boundaries that strike between them in terms of equality, respect for the dignity of each. In this work, a multi-disciplinary perspective, theoretical and empirical in nature, relying primarily on data drawn from interviews with women of diverse ages and conditions, in Braga, we reveal the mechanisms, the plots and the contradictions of the phenomenon of domestic violence within the family and the conjugality.
