Resumo: The authors report a case of diabetes ín a patíent receíving protease inihibitors (saquinavir) for the treatment of Human Immunodefícíency Vírus (HIV). A 39 year-old male, positive for the HIV antibody since 1991 and havíng AIDS sínce 1994, developed resístance to combínatíon therapy wíth zidovudine, zalcitabine and ritonavír. He began therapy wíth saquinavir, showíig progessive clinical improvement, but developed type 2 diabetes.

Trata-se de um homem de 39 anos, com seropositividade para VIH 1 conhecida desde 1991 e com critérios de SIDA desde 1994, que desenvolveu resistência à terapêutica tripla com zídovudína, zalcítabína e rítonavír. Foi então efectuada modificação da terapêutica para saquínavír, verificando-se melhoria clíníca acentuada, mas com o desenvolvimento de diabetes secundária que obrigou a insulinoterapia.
