Resumo: On these days, often we see the contempt and maybe ignorance about accumulated knowledge, as the formal banality very present in our architecture thought apart of the human question. The house should be a machine to live, prophesied by Corbusier in the 20s and seven decades after, Siza emphasize "una casa es la de una máquina complicada en la que cada dia se avería alguna cosa" 6. In the speech of the great masters, the central theme of his thought is usually about the pursuit of the perfect house. Although impossible, defends the theory about who wants to investigate and adapt the precepts to the concept of the man and the contemporary living (summarizing the past) and adding information of the actual period. "Não deve haver tipologia na História da Arquitectura mais complexo e difícil do que a casa. Desenhar uma casa é um acto 'esquizóide3; de reduzir o mundo a um objecto vital" 7 This progression is not linear also within the limits of each architect, especially considering very short periods of time, however some buildings, as A. Siza says, can be the cumulative resume of previous work and the way for the future. And this dissertation is based on these proposals, trying to understand also the context of its materialization - because without context the architecture is sculpture - and to love is necessary to know, as mentioned by Helena Roseta8. The Inquérito in the Portuguese architecture of the 50s, imposes a new alibi to attack and oppose the idolatry set up by a central power, reluctant and confused «because ignorant» of our possibilities and necessities. The evolution, the summary and sometimes the regression are processes affirmed as indispensables to realize a society in constantly changing and urgency of new functional paradigms. In this dissertation is pretended to clarify the development in the organization of the house with principal focus in the last half of the 20th century and the investigation is centered in three main figures of the portuguese architecture: Távora, Siza, Souto de Moura, and these last two recognized by the international critic with the biggest architectural award, the Pritzker Prize.
