Resumo: The practice of sketching is at the base of visual arts: being able to quickly fix an intuition with a few simple strokes allows, subsequently, the possibility of developing the same in the most varied declinations, whether they are more detailed drawings, sculptures or architectural projects. The first part of this dissertation contains a historical analysis, starting from the original testimonies of the most representative and influential figures in the history of art, to witness the evolution of the sketch, both on a practical and conceptual level, in the course of history, when these simple drawings start from being considered as an inicial phase in the developing process of an artistic work to being valued as an autentic and autonomous expressive artistic form, sought and appreciated for the immediate and sincere expressive charge hidden in the apparent simplicity of the features. Will be analysed the instruments, both internal to the human being, such as the hand and the eye and the psycho-physical mechanisms that regulate their interaction in the discipline of drawing, as well as the external ones, that is the work tools of the artistists and their function in the practice of instant sketch; Starting from those with a and more softer section temporary, to those more suited to the definition of salient details, arriving at the pictorical instruments and material. The final part illustrates the procedural steps and some exercises that allow a better understanding of the intrinsic characteristics of the drawing’s practice, which are highlighted in the essentiality of the sketch: those of descriptiveness, in the case of bases for a project to be developed in stages, to those of the evocative capacity, more tense to represent the relationship between the artist and the object represented.
