Resumo: A growing number of thyroid nodules are detected incidentally during imaging tests performed for unrelated reasons and constitute both a clinical and public health problem. Due to scarce information and lack of long term follow-up studies of individuals with subclinical nodules, there are no consensual guidelines for the management and follow-up of these cases leading to different approaches by different clinician's and a lot of controversy issues surrounding this matter. In order to help standardize the approach to subclinical thyroid nodules an extensive literature review and evidence-based guidelines, in the form of algorithms, are provided.
