This dissertation comes from an urge to rethink the role of some spaces and buildings of collective use in the city of Braga that are currently unoccupied or in the process of being completely deserted, in order to give them back to the community as participative forms of its everyday life and as engines of revitalization of the urban life in the historic centre. This theme initially arose from the interest to study the commercial galleries built in the 80s, obsolete and empty nowadays, having evolved to a broader analysis that includes other forms of invasion of the interior of the urban block with collective activities, and consequently collective infrastructures; as an example we have the parking lots and tunnels that left significant scars in the urban tissue, originating uncharacterized and left-over empty spaces in the city centre. Starting from an historical analysis (concerning the evolution of the collective forms of the city, the process of contamination of the interior of the urban block and the emergence of the commercial galleries), we explored the particular problems, urban and architecture wise, of each one of the three urban blocks we chose as case-studies. Our approach, which we can call urban acupuncture, aims for the development of three different projects, one for each case-study, all of them intending not only to regenerate each urban block (associating the requalification of the leftover empty spaces with the reactivation of the commercial galleries) but also to induce a positive impact on the neighbour areas; despite the punctual feature of the strategy perceived at first glance, it also has a radiant dimension or effect. Therefore, we can say that this work is a project exercise that searches for the reanimation of these "sick" spaces' utility and beauty by offering them a collective purpose and integrating them in the city dynamics.
