Resumo: The present paper aimed at summarising the discussion emerged from the roundtable seminar on health markets in Africa and their regulation, with the objective to draw lessons for the wider debate on health commercialisation in lowincome countries. The seminar presentations explored themes such as the IHMT’s research contribution on private healthcare providers in Portuguese-speaking African countries, the need and complexity of healthcare regulation in Europe and Africa, and the emerging challenges for attraction and retention of human resources for health in low-income countries markets. A shared view emerged from the roundtable discussion on the pluralistic nature of healthcare providers in low-income settings, on its inevitability, and on the need for better evidence to inform the regulation of health markets and its commercialisation.

As apresentações da mesa redonda tocaram em temas quais a contribuição do IHMT à investigação dos prestadores privados da saúde nos países Africanos de língua Portuguesa, a necessidade e complexidade da regulação dos serviços de saúde em Europa e África, e os desafios emergentes no âmbito da atração e retenção de quadros nos mercados da saúde em países de baixa renda.
