Universidade e Instituto Politécnico: duas experiências de projeto e traçado no CEFA/UP

Resumo: This dissertation is related to the general theme of the architecture of university complexes and had as its research theme two case studies. In an analysis, which starts from general themes for individuals, we began by studying the municipalities of Aveiro (1759) and Viseu (1123), in the Central and North-Central regions of Portugal, and then to recognize the characteristics of the built set of University of Aveiro (UA) and the Viseu Higher School of Technology and Management (ESTGV) 1. It is also important to consider the specificity that these sets of buildings2 were both prepared at the Study Center of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (CEFA / UP). However, teams are distinct and situations involving their design and planning processes are diverse. The survey of more details about the parallel and at the same time singular paths that the orders of these projects take - due to their different purposes - is precisely one of the central objectives of this investigation. At the same time, through interviews and testimonials, it was also possible to record narratives of some of the architects involved, draw main architectural references and learn more about the historical moment they experienced. From this information raised, we close the investigation with a comparative analysis between both sets and their compositions, as well as between each of them and their possible architectural references. Thus, in this investigation, which was based on texts and figures, it was possible to demonstrate the contrasts and characteristics of these case studies that, in the same category - of objects for higher education - and with the same organization model, are solutions for the study. higher education from a university and from a polytechnic institute.
