Resumo: The history of Alitalia illustrates how a country's pride quickly turned to disaster when low-cost airlines entered the market in the early 1990s. Despite multiple attempts at restructuring and acquisitions/mergers, the valuations performed in the paper, DCF and Z-score, are evidence of the catastrophic economic condition. While both the European and Italian markets were flourishing, yet the airline continued to lose market share without being able to recover. To complete the analysis of Alitalia's bankruptcy, the following section will examine the company's out-of-control costs in an attempt to comprehend the extent to which they were a driver of the bankruptcy.
