Resumo: For the new multipurpose terminal of the Port of Leixoes, presently under construction on the inner side of the Leixoes south breakwater, a gravitic type solution was chosen. The solution is based on the superposition of unreinforced concrete blocks, with an innovative and patented geometry NOREF Blocks. These blocks make possible the construction of an open berthing face (less reflective), which aims to improve, or at least not to worsen, wave conditions in the harbor basin, especially near the quay wall, as well as reducing the overtopping levels. Even though this solution has already been used before in a small fishing harbor, its hydraulic efficiency, in terms of wave reflection, has never been evaluated experimentally. In this work, the results of the physical model tests of the hydraulic efficiency, in terms of wave reflection, of a quay wall build with NOREF blocks are presented. The blocks geometry has been defined in the terminal project phase (CONSULMAR). The physical model tests were carried out at a scale 1:30, for two quay wall lengths: 2.0 m (60.0 m in prototype) and 0.5 m (15.0 m in prototype). The test plan included two tide levels (mean tide and high tide), four significant wave heights (0.50 m, 0.75 m, 1.0 m and 1.5 m) and four wave peak periods (3 s, 4 s, 5 s and 6 s). Results are also compared with the ones obtained for a quay wall with a continuous berthing face.
