Resumo: This dissertation proposes to investigate the modes of space appropriation of the Roma community from three housing contexts that are distinct from each other: the Anta social housing, the Ardegães house and the Coriscos social housing, in the municipality of Maia. Through direct contact with the different communities it is intended to understand how certain cultural traits are reflected in everyday spaces, exploring their characteristics and constraints as they arise in conditions of precariousness and poverty. This mapping allowed to understand how the experiences of some Roma families are materialized in space, namely in housing in a municipal context. Broadening the debate to public housing, the work focuses on the issue of planning for specificity taking diversity into account, and considering processes in which the residents are not known in advance, but it is necessary to produce adequate housing. Roma people are just an example of the varied profiles that may live in social housing, so it is important to discuss mechanisms and tools of socio-spatial actions that can contribute to the integration and adaptation of the specificities found in the planning of public housing, in order to create spaces that communities can relate and identify with.
