Resumo: Interoperability is the ability of different information systems, devices and applications to access, exchange, integrate and cooperatively use data in a coordinated manner, within and across organizational and geographical boundaries, to provide information portability in a timely and appropriate manner, optimizing the healthcare of individuals and populations around the world. Forensic Dentistry, one of the many valences of Forensic Sciences, can be defined as the branch of Dentistry which, for the clarification of Justice, deals with evidence and facts of a dental nature. Various sources of information can be considered for decision-making, such as clinical records, such as dental records, which may include radiological data. The computerisation of dental clinical records is a growing reality. Although the usefulness of these data is recognised, there is no relevant information regarding their interoperability. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the importance of the interoperability of dental clinical records and their relevance in the forensic field, seeking to provide an important impetus for the integration of dental clinical records in the SNS24 platform, with the concomitant paradigm shift on the part of dentists in clinical practice and in the choice of computer software.
