The fundamental aspects addressed in this work focus on the importance of the work carried out by the Association for the Study and Protection of Asses (APEGA) in the preservation of an indigenous species, the "Burro de Miranda". The donkey is facing extinction not only on the European continent, but also worldwide. In the mid-1960s in Portugal, there was a large influx of people from the countryside to the city, so with the advent of new machinery, the donkey was put aside, it was no longer useful to the population. As we can see, the donkey ceased to be useful and over the years it began to be forgotten by the vast majority. However, there are non-governmental organizations that seek to preserve this animal, for example, in the region of Trás-os-Montes there is the Centro de Valorização do Burro de Miranda (CVBM), which aims to preserve the Asinina de Miranda breed in the village of Atenor, Miranda do Douro council, which supports 60 animals.
