Até meados dos anos vinte do século passado, tal comportamento pouco se diferenciava das iniciativas anti-clericais, das manifestações de intolerância e de ocasionais actos de violência levados a cabo pelos governos e radicais ditos liberais. Quando o Presidente Plutarco Calles, um dos generais sonoristas saídos da Revolução Mexicana, resolveu controlar fanaticamente os restos da liberdade religiosa e, depois, promover o assassinato e a execução arbitrária de clérigos, religiosos e leigos, induziu a insurreição em várias comunidades católicas. A revolta, inicialmente confinada, viria a degenerar num conflito armado que o governo federal não conseguiu sufocar. Só com a ajuda cúmplice e interessada dos EUA, pode o governo mexicano pôr fim ao conflito que ficaria conhecido na História como Guerra Cristera.Since the middle of the XIX century, that the freemasonic elite that took over the reins of Mexico, had begun a campaign against the Catholic Church. Until the mid twenties of the last century, such behavior differed little from the anti-clerical initiatives, the underlying intolerance and occasional acts of violence carried out by governments and radicals of the so-called liberals. But when President Plutarco Calles, a general of the sonoristas leftovers of the Mexican Revolution, fanatically decided to limit and control the exercise of religious activity and, later on, promote murder and arbitrary execution of clergy, members of the religious orders and laity, the fact induced the insurrection of various catholic communities. The revolt, initially localized, would spread and escalate into a declared armed conflict that the federal government could not quell.
