Administraram-se os seguintes instrumentos de autorresposta: question?rio sociodemogr?fico, Intimate Partner Violence and Traumatic Affect Scale, Intimate Partner Violence Check List, State Shame and Guilt Scale e External and Internal Shame Scale. | Introduction: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global public health problem that affects individuals regardless of their sociodemographic characteristics, including gender identity. IPV can cause psychological trauma with serious consequences for the mental health of victims. However, the scarcity of measurement instruments that assess post traumatic affect in these victims represents a challenge in this domain. Objectives: The objective of this study was to explore the psychometric properties of the version of the Intimate Violence and Traumatic Affect Scale (VITA) adapted to European Portuguese and gender identity and provide preliminary data on its validity and reliability to measure post-traumatic affect in IPV victims. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on a convenience sample of 214 adults with Portuguese nationality and various gender identities who endorsed experiences of victimization perpetrated by intimate partners. Self-response instruments were administered, including the Intimate Partner Violence and Traumatic Affect Scale, Intimate Partner Violence Check List, State Shame and Guilt Scale, and External and Internal Shame Scale. Results: The latent structure of the adapted version of VITA, composed of the factors of fear, terror, shame, and guilt, showed an acceptable fit to the data and factorial validity. The model exhibited internal consistency, temporal stability, and convergent validity of the items in their respective factors and with other measures that assess the frequency of exposure to various forms of IPV, guilt, and shame. Discussion: This study increased knowledge about VITA and provides relevant information on the psychometric properties of its version in European Portuguese and adapted to gender identities. The results support the relevance of further in-depth analyses of the psychometric properties of the referred version of VITA. The greater clinical utility of this inclusive measure may help to improve the assessment and treatment of victims of IPV in Portugal and in Portuguese speakers living in other countries. |
