The Medical-Pharmaceutical Heritage of Lousal Mines is part of its social heritage and it is a fundamental part of the mining history and memory, the identity of social groups and their cultural practices. The research work entailed the study and analysis of the Medical-Pharmaceutical Heritage of Lousal Mines, through the investigation of the health services provided by the mining concession during its functional cycle (1900-1988). This heritage is considered to be one of the fundamental aspects in the social organization of the Mines. The medicalpharmaceutical services, such as other social services, are fundamental in improving the quality of life of the miners and their families, and promoting the sense of belonging and identity of the village. The ‘Casa de Saúde’ exhibition, which resulted from the authors’ research, is currently integrated in the cultural heritage of the Lousal Mining Museum. It provides the public with insights into the medical-pharmaceutical services available in the Lousal mines during its functional period.
