Resumo: The following dissertation proposes a study about the role of the architect in the pre and post-catastrophe, through the study of the humanitarian architecture of Shigeru Ban. This architect does many projects in the emergency context with the United Nations High Commissioner and many other volunteer architects. In its humanitarian projects, Ban presents the structural capacity of the cardboard tube, a lightweight, economical, ecological and easy to produce material. This work also focuses the deeper study of this material, through the analysis of Ban's humanitarian projects, ending with a proposal for a structure designed with cardboard tubes that can be used in Portugal in case of disaster.
