Resumo: | This paper studies the management of global supply chain (GSCs) risks in the smartphone industry, given recent globalisation trends and geopolitical disruptions. The paper discusses a Supply Chain Risk Management(SCRM) model-based on a seminal contribution to this field’s literature and used throughout as a benchmark-before applying it to selected smartphone case studies. The disruptions studied paint a picture of underlying trends in globalisation that have accelerated, and to which GSCs will have to adapt, traditional risks being more likely to occur and cause more damages, in an increasingly uncertain world. Finally, the paper highlights three points common to GSCs risk mitigation given these trends: digitalisation, there structuring of shoring options and the management of inventories and production capacity. |
