Resumo: Democracia em Vertigem (2019), directed by Petra Costa, is a first-person documentary that traces her relationship with Brazil, her family's memory and the connection between these points and the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff in 2016 and the rise of Jair Bolsonaro. To support the role of autobiography, the director explored some notions of place and memory developed by Pierre Nora, as well as ideas about forgetting developed by Marc Augé and Paul Ricoeur. These themes orbit around the cinematographic concepts of Bill Nichols and André Bazin. The article will therefore look at how Petra worked on these points to elucidate Brazil's past, present and future.
