This dissertation, entitled "Um Hotel na 'Praia das Rosas': Reabilitação do Hotel do Sol (Mirassol) emerged from a close relationship with the coastal landscape of the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, specifically Praia de Miramar. Thus, the selected object of study, Hotel do Sol (Mirassol), is inserted along this landscape and was an important milestone in the development of a tourism and leisure narrative in Miramar. Built during the forties, this well-known hotel was closed in the late nineties and is currently in an advanced state of disrepair. However, the interest in this building has never faded. In recent years, several projects have been presented for this site, nonetheless, in many cases, they do not respect the symbolic value of this ruin. Throughout this dissertation, it is proposed to carry out a documentary and graphic investigation on the history and characteristics of this unique hotel and the territory where it is located. The ultimate goal is to present an intervention proposal. Thus, the ruin was the starting point of all reflections of this dissertation. In conclusion, the final proposal presented provides a synthesis of all the issues and refletions addresed throughout this work, seeking respect for the value of the ruin and its memory, without ever forgetting the need to adapt it to contemporary requirements.
