Laparoscopic gastropexy in neonatal gastric volvulus

Resumo: Introduction: Gastric volvulus is a rare condition in pediatric age. Acute and recurrent chronic cases are described but the real incidence is unknown. We present the surgical description of a case of a chronic recurrent gastric volvulus, diagnosed in the neonatal period and treated with success by laparoscopy. Clinical case: Newborn, male, diagnosed with Ebstein anomaly, admitted in the hospital with recurrent non-bilious vomiting, dehydration and loss of weight. The upper gastrointestinal study showed an organoaxial volvulus of the stomach. He was submitted to laparoscopic gastropexy. Discussion: According to most of the authors the surgical correction of the gastric volvulus is mandatory to prevent recurrences and complications. Laparoscopic gastropexy is a minimally invasive, simple and safe technique. Keywords: gastric volvulus, laparoscopic gastropexy

Estão descritos casos crónicos recorrentes e agudos, mas a sua incidência real é desconhecida. Apresentamos a descrição cirúrgica de um caso de volvo gástrico crónico, recorrente, diagnosticado no período neonatal, tratado com sucesso por via laparoscópica. Caso clínico: Recém-nascido, do sexo masculino, portador de anomalia de Ebstein, com vómitos não biliosos recorrentes, desidratação e perda ponderal. O estudo contrastado, do tubo digestivo superior, mostrou volvo gástrico organoaxial, tendo sido submetido a gastropexia por via laparoscópica. Discussão: Segundo a maioria dos au- tores, a correcção cirúrgica do volvo gástrico é mandatória para prevenção de recorrências e complicações. A gastropexia por via mini- mamente invasiva é simples e segura.
