This Master Thesis, "Percorrer, Habitar, Representar - Estratégias do projectode Fernando Távora para a Quinta da Conceição", structures a monographicapproach to the subject of Portuguese Architecture of the 50s and 60s, througha single project, one of the most complete works of Fernando Távora, Quinta daConceição (1956-60), in Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos, studied by its originaldesign (excluding subsequent changes made in the 90s).The approach to the theme starts with a historical survey, developing itwith a perceptive and experienced analysis walking through Quinta da Concei-ção's spaces, in order to assess the design strategies used by Távora.The approach to the study case allows us to understand the features andevents of national and international architectures, and how both are related andmediated, at a time when some architects supported the integration of traditionalvalues within modern architecture. These topics were somewhat introduced, byFernando Távora in his small essay "O Problema da Casa Portuguesa" (1947),and continued in the Survey on Popular Architecture in Portugal (1955-61), whichhas revealed itself as fundamental to the systematization and synthesis of thevalues of our own Architecture.
