Resumo: Sjögren`s syndrome (SS) is a chronic inflammatory disease with major immunological features that include infiltration of salivary and lacrimal glands by CD4+ T cells and B cells, the presence of autoantibodies to nucleoproteins and its genetic predisposition linked to the HLA region. It`s diagnosis can be made using different criteria approved by WHO. Recent advances in the field of genetic therapy opens new perspectives for the treatment of SS – the use of genes encoding for anti-inflamatory cytokines is being studied.
