Assim, concluiu-se que é possível produzir estruturas auxéticas recorrendo à técnica de fabrico aditivo WAAM-CMT.The work carried out within this dissertation aimed to analyse the structural integrity, as well as the auxetic properties, of cells produced using the WAAM-CMT additive manufacturing technique. The auxetic cells have a negative Poisson coefficient, which translates into a different behaviour from the conventional one. These structures expand in the transverse direction when subjected to axial tensile loads. To achieve the objective of this dissertation, 1D, 2D and 3D cells were produced in order to evaluate the differences between their characteristics and behaviour. The analysis of the auxetic cells comprised the study of the thermal cycles involved in their production and the mechanical and microstructural characterisation of the material from which they were produced, carbon steel. The mechanical characterization consisted in hardness measurements, performed with the purpose of studying the local resistance evolution in different segments of the cells, and also tensile and compression tests. The tensile tests were carried out to assess the plastic behaviour of the material from which the cells were produced, by testing 1D cell specimens and also to characterise the auxeticity of 2D cells. Compression assays were performed to evaluate the auxeticity of 3D cells. In the tensile characterisation of 1D cells, machined and as-built samples were also tested in order to determine the influence of the surface finish on the mechanical behaviour of cells. The thermal cycles analysis allowed to conclude that both the heat distribution and the cooling speed conditioned the cells integrity. In fact, for the regions of the cells where the maximum temperatures were higher, the absence of important defects and the lower hardness values were registered. The results of the tensile tests on machined and as-built cells also demonstrated that the surface finish of cells strongly influences their mechanical behaviour, with much higher deformation values being recorded for machined cells. The tensile and compression tests of 2D and 3D cells, respectively, revealed that the produced cells exhibit auxetic behaviour. In conclusion, it is possible to produce auxetic structures using the WAAM-CMT additive manufacturing technique.2023-07-252025-01-15T00:00:00Zinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesishttp://hdl.handle.net/10316/107859http://hdl.handle.net/10316/107859TID:203338847porRocha, Joao Pedro Martinsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/embargoedAccessreponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAP2023-10-27T11:15:08Zoai:estudogeral.uc.pt:10316/107859Portal AgregadorONGhttps://www.rcaap.pt/oai/openaireopendoar:71602024-03-19T21:24:09.433774Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos) - Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãofalse |
