Resumo: This article presents the first critical edition and translation into a modern language of a Latin letter from the Spanish humanist Benito Arias Montano (ca. 1525/1527‐1598), director of the Antwerp Polyglot Bible, to the French Hebraist Gilbert Genebrard (1535‐1597). The writing is an indepth apology of the Hebrew language and the Hebrew original of the Bible. In the introductory study, the author presents the background of this undated document, contextualizes the letter within the whole correspondence of Arias Montano and proposes a dating. The importance of this letter lies in the fact that it is a key piece to reconstruct both the personal controversy between Arias Montano and Wilhelmus Lindanus, regarding the Antwerp Polyglot Bible, and the 16th century debates between supporters and opponents of the Hebrew original of the Holy Scripture.

La importancia de esta carta radica en el hecho de que constituye una pieza clave para reconstruir tanto la polémica recepción de la Biblia la Políglota de Amberes como el debate más general suscitado en la filología bíblica del siglo XVI entre defensores y detractores del original hebreode las Sagradas Escrituras.Ce texte présente la première édition critique et la traduction dans une langue moderne d’une lettre latine de l’humaniste espagnol Arias Montanto (ca. 1525/1527‐1598), directeur de la Bible Polyglotte d’Anvers, adressée à l’orientaliste français Gilbert Génébrad (1535‐1597). Le texte est une apologie de la langue hébraïque et des textes originaux hébraïques de la Bible. Dans l’introduction, l’auteur expose les antécédents du document non daté, il contextualise la lettre dans l’ensemble de la correspondance d’Arias Montano et propose une date pour celle‐ci. L’importance de cette lettre se trouve dans le fait qu’elle est la pièce maîtresse pour reconstruire, d’une part, la réception polémique de la Bible Polyglotte d’Anvers et, d’autre part, le débat plus général suscité au sein de la philologie biblique du XVIe siècle entre les défenseurs et les adversaires de l’original hébraïque des Saintes Écritures.Este texto apresenta a primeira edição crítica e tradução para uma língua moderna de uma carta latina do humanista espanhol Arias Montano (ca. 1525/1527‐1598), diretor da Bíblia Poliglota de Antuérpia, ao orientalista francês Gilberto Genebrardo (1535‐1597). O texto é uma apologia da língua hebraica e dos originais hebraicos da Bíblia. Na introdução, o autor expõe os antecedentes do referido documento sem data, contextualiza a carta no conjunto da correspondência de Arias Montano e propõe uma datação para a mesma.
