O objetivo deste estudo ? perceber se a solid?o e a depress?o podem ser considerados construtos independentes ou se, pelo contr?rio, surgem de forma concomitante. A amostra foi constitu?da por 62 indiv?duos de nacionalidade portuguesa, com idades compreendidas entre os 45 e os 65 anos de idade. Os dados relativos ? solid?o foram recolhidos atrav?s da Escala de Solid?o ? UCLA e para avaliar a depress?o foi utilizada a Escala de Depress?o Geri?trica de Yesavage (GDS). A an?lise dos resultados revelou a exist?ncia de valores estatisticamente significativos no concerne ? exist?ncia de solid?o e/ou depress?o; existem indiv?duos que n?o t?m solid?o nem depress?o; existem indiv?duos que n?o t?m solid?o e t?m depress?o; existem indiv?duos com solid?o e com depress?o e existem indiv?duos com solid?o e sem depress?o. A exist?ncia de indiv?duos que simultaneamente apresentam solid?o e n?o apresentam depress?o, parece dissociar os dois construtos, e apontar no sentido de que a solid?o existe independentemente da depress?o ou sem ser mascarada por esta, da? que se justifique a necessidade de realiza??o de mais estudos sobre esta tem?tica. / The goal of this study is to understand if loneliness and depression can be considered independent constructs or if, otherwise, they come out concomitantly. A sample of 62 Portuguese individuals was used, with ages between 45 and 65 years old. The data regarding loneliness was gathered using the Loneliness Scale ? UCLA and to evaluate depression it was used the Geriatric Depression Scale of Yesavage (GDS). The analysis of the results displayed the existence of values statistically meaningful concerning the existence of loneliness and/or depression: there are individuals that don?t suffer from loneliness nor depression; there are individuals that don?t suffer from loneliness but do suffer from depression; there are individuals that suffer both from loneliness and depression; and there are individuals that suffer from loneliness but do not suffer from depression. The existence of individuals that simultaneously show signs of loneliness and don?t show signs of depression seems to segregate these two constructs and aim to the point that there is loneliness regardless depression or without being disguised by it, that is why the need of further studies in this field is justified.
