The purpose of this paper is to submit some of the apparently absurd and violent events of our contemporary life, namely the riots occurred during 2011 in London, to a sharp philosophical test. According to this test, and its inherent philosophical background, the overwhelming and pervading dominance of consumerism, both in politics and individual human behavior, could be read not as the failure of the ethics of virtue, or the sheer absence of philosophical reasoning, but as the sign of a true and complete fulfillment of the utilitarianism philosophy agenda, defined by the blunt understanding of material happiness as the guiding principle of ethics and practical philosophy as a whole.
