Resumo: Most firms around the world are family firms. Their relevance and contribution to country’s economy is globally recognized. Therefore, understand these companies in detail is crucial. This study aims to design family firms profile using a sample of 233 family firms of Leiria region. Results show that most of respondent firms are exclusively owned and controlled by the family. Moreover, 70% are in the first generation, as 33% are in the business for less than 10 years. In mean, more than two family members actively work in the firm. The family identity is present in the firm, as well as the family culture and commitment. The family is an important influence in the business.
