Resumo: Cultural tourism has traditionally been discussed in the scientific literature in terms of its attraction for visitors, who aim to get to know and participate in a new place, expand their culture, or simply enjoy the monuments and heritage of high touristic value. This is the type of tourism that has the most favourable impact on the conservation of both the environment and the historic-artistic heritage. It moves away from mass tourism, the negative effects on the destination, and seasonality. The current work examines the motivations driving tourists to choose a particular destination, with an empirical analysis of the Spanish town of Cuenca, a historic walled city declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The study runs a factor analysis on data from a survey of visitors to this destination.
