Estudo da difusão das artes visuais nos municípios e seus diferentes modelos de infraestruturas culturais, partindo da análise de quatro exemplos nacionais : ensaio para um modelo de centro de Arte Contemporânea para o Município de Loures

The purpose of this study is to present a proposal of an art centre project for the Municipality of Loures which, more than a simple space for the presentation of Contemporary Art, intends to be a fostering structure of the relationship between the local community and Art. During the biennium 2014-2015, 24 municipal cultural infrastructures (art centres, cultural centres, and cultural forums, among others) with specific programming in the area of Contemporary Art, were surveyed, in order to perceive their operating mode, their adaptation to the surrounding reality and the receptivity of the local community to these structures. Of the 24 ICGM surveyed, only four were chosen due to the fact they were considered the most significant in terms of organizational structure, mission and objectives. A more in-depth analysis was carried out on the Graça Morais Contemporary Art Centre (Bragança), the Centre for Visual Arts (Coimbra), the Manuel de Brito Art Centre (Algés) and the Sines Arts Centre (Sines), evaluating aspects such as the architecture of the space, the organization, the programming, the public and the management of the museological collection of these cultural institutions. From this analysis it was possible to design a model of art centre for the Municipality of Loures, more adapted to the reality of this territory and which we believe will be able to promote a closer relationship between Art and the local population. This is how the TEIA – Loures Visual Arts Centre emerges, a space intended to stimulate local artistic production and to strengthen the relationship between the local community, art and artists, and encourage the participation of local cultural agents and producers, companies, educational establishments, among others. Therefore, TEIA’s main objective will be to foster a more participative and committed community and consequently more interested in Culture, promoting the aspects that distinguish the Loures community from other communities
