Tendo por objectivo determinar a forma como os eventos que ocorriam no Egipto, mais concretamente no Vale dos Reis, em Luxor ocidental, chegavam aos jornais e às revistas em Portugal, embrenhámo-nos na análise do funcionamento das agências de notícias ou agências telegráficas, como também eram chamadas, com especial interesse pelas agências com que os jornais portugueses trabalhavam. Neste contexto, encarámos com a Agência Radio e com a figura do jornalista e empresário galego Alejo Carrera Muñoz. Foi esta agência, dirigida por aquele, que forneceu aos jornais portugueses no período considerado o maior número de notícias telegráficas sobre a descoberta do túmulo de Tutankhamon. Este facto chamou-nos a atenção, por um lado, porque na bibliografia existente é assumido que a única agência telegráfica com a qual a imprensa portuguesa trabalhava na altura era a Havas e, por outro, porque a possibilidade de a Agência Radio ser uma agência portuguesa conflitua com a ideia de que a primeira agência nacional, a Lusitânia, data de 1944. Pretendemos, assim, demonstrar a relevância da Agência Radio, principalmente na década de 20 do século XX, reconstituir a sua história e tentar desvendar a sua verdadeira natureza. During an investigation in the field of the Reception of the Antiquity in Portugal, dedicated to the identification, collection and analysis of news and articles related to the discovery of the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun published between 1922 and 1939 in national newspapers and magazines, we stumbled upon the need of knowing, in depth, the reality of the Portuguese press in the 20s and 30s of the past century. Having as a goal to determine the way in which the events that occurred in Egypt, specifically in the Valley of the Kings, in Western Luxor, arrived at the newspapers and magazines in Portugal, we wrapped ourselves up in the analysis of the functioning of the news agencies or telegraphic agencies, as they were also called, with special interest in the agencies with which the Portuguese newspapers worked. In this context, we found Agência Radio and the figure of the Galician journalist and businessman Alejo Carrera Muñoz. It was this agency, directed by him, that gave to the Portuguese newspapers, in the considered period, the largest number of telegraphic news about the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. This fact interested us because, in one hand, in the existent bibliography it is assumed that the only telegraphic agency with which the Portuguese press worked at the time was Havas and, on the other hand, the possibility of Agência Radio being, in fact, a Portuguese agency conflicts with the idea that the first national agency, Lusitânia, dates from 1944.
