Resumo: The risk of injury in football is high, sothe bodies that supervise the sport have shown increasing concern toward the incidence, causes and severity of injuries in football. The game is marked by strong and frequente demand for high intensity efforts and powerful contacts that led some authors to consider it as na increased injury risk sport. Thus, the importance and the need to pay particular attention to issues relating injuries in professional soccer players has been evidenced over the past decades, with particular attention given by several study groups. In this sense, the objective of this study was to follow patterns and incidence of injury in a professional team. This probation report was held in the last year of 2nd cycle in High Yield Sports Training in the University of Sports of Porto, in Clube Desportivo Feirense, who participated in the 2nd Portuguese Division. There were diagnosed 46 injuries, corresponding to na incidence of 6.1 injuries/1000h of exposure. The incidence in the game was superior to training (17.3 vs 4.4). Of the 46 reported injuries, 4 were re-injury, representing 8% of the total number of injuries. Injuries in the preparatory period represent 33% of total injuries. The most frequent injuries were from overuse (41%), followed by muscle strains (39%) and sprains (9%). The thigh, hip and knee are where the number of injuries are where the number of injuries are higher being the subtype of the most common injuries in the quadriceps (28%), adductor (20%) and the hamstring (15%). Goalkeepers represent 9% of total injuries, the full-backs 15%, central-backs 11%, midfielders 28%, the wingers 15% and forwards 22%. The minor and slighter injuries account for 30% of total injuries, while moderate injuries account for 33% and serious injuries only 4%. On average, it can be expected that an athlete will not fully participate in training or game during 9.3 days. The results meet the observations of the rest of the literature.
