The western monasticism privileged the communitarian forms, despite the dominance of individual monasticism in it's origins, in Middle East and in Egypt. The Western monasticism on High Middle Age evolved, progressively, to more complex and sophisticated ways to organize cenobitic life: order and jurisdiction; internal hierarchy and horizontal relationship; patrimony and economy; work; time and space organisation; rituais of communitarian celebration; the setting up of frontiers between inside and outside monastery; the precepts of contact among monastic and non monastic people, the stability and safety purposes are the main aspects shared between monastic culture and ancient roman urban life. It is our purpose to show that High Medieval Age monastic theories intended to firm a spiritual project, not only achieving a model of preservation of common life inspired on ancient cities, but also producing a temporal alternative to the ruined urban way oflife after the Fall of Roman Empir
