LEYDIG CELL TUMOR OF THE OVARY – A RARE CASE OF HYPERANDROGENISM

Resumo: The androgen secreting tumors are rare and frequently undetectable. One of the most common is Leydig cell tumor and it is usually benign. This case reports a 67-year-old female patient, complaining of hirsutism and androgenetic alopecia. Laboratory tests showed an elevated serum testosterone. The ultrasound revealed the presence of a nodule in the left ovary. The patient underwent bilateral oophorectomy. The histopathologic examination revealed the presence of Leydig cells. The clinical follow up showed a slight improvement of symptoms and normalization of serum levels of testosterone.KEYWORDS – Hyperandrogenism; Virilism; Leydig Cell Tumor; Ovarian Neoplasms.

Descreve-se o caso clínico de uma doente do sexo feminino, 67 anos de idade, que recorre à consulta por queixas de hirsutismo (score 23) e alopécia com padrão androgenético A avaliação laboratorial revelou níveis séricos elevados de testosterona. A ecografia ginecológica por via transvaginal permitiu identificar a presença de um nódulo sólido no ovário esquerdo com características imagiológicas sugestivas de malignidade pelo que, a doente foi submetida a ooforectomia bilateral. O exame histopatológico revelou a presença de células de Leydig.
