Growth and exchange rate regime: the analysis of the effect of France on Morocco through interest rates and exports

Resumo: This paper looks at the connection between both Morocco and France, and how the latter is affecting real GDP growth in the former, given that Morocco has been pegging its currency against the Franc, then the euro. In addition to that, France being the main trading partner of the kingdom for so many years now. The results show that for each 1% increase in short term nominal interest rates in France, Morocco’s real GDP growth goes up by 0.83%, and might even go further to 0.98% depending on the model. Exports to base hasn’t been found to significantly affect Morocco’s real output, despite having a negative coefficient.
