Resumo: In this essay the demographic and economic aspects of Tondela between the middle of the 16th century and the end of the 19th century/beginning of the 20th~century are examined. The study of demographic aspects rests on the analysis of Registos Paroquiais and of Censos da População since 1864 and the economic evolution from various historical sources: Memórias Paroquiais, Registos Paroquiais, Relatórios da Junta Distrital de Viseu, and Inquéritos Industriais . The development of agriculture in its varieties – cultivation of cereals, vegetables, vineyards, and cattle raising – and the flowering of commerce, the arts, as well as industrial and handicraft activities are thus addressed.

Os aspectos demográficos foram estudados com base na análise dos Registos Paroquiais e dos Censos da População desde 1864 e a evolução da economia estruturada a partir de diferentes fontes históricas: Memórias Paroquiais, Registos Paroquiais, Relatórios da Junta Distrital de Viseu e Inquéritos Industriais.
