All over the world and especially in the United States of America, after the death of George Floyd (25/05/20), there is a resurgence of public debate on dis-crimination in all its forms. Racism and xenophobia are discriminatory social phenomena, which consti-tute violations of the principles of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law. Principles upon which the European Union is founded, and which are common to the Member States. The Portuguese Security Forces (GNR and PSP) have the daily responsibility to ensure, even at the cost of their own lives, the normal functioning of the rule of law. All of their officers have taken an oath, in a public ceremony, to honour, comply with and enforce the Constitution and other laws of the Republic. This dissertation aims to characterise, through a combined (qualitative and quantitative) research strategy, the discrimination practices committed by the Se-curity Forces in Portugal, and also present the respective institutional prevention and combat strategies. Interview survey and documentary analysis were used as data collection tech-niques. The diversification of the methods used aimed to, in addition to the com-plementarity, gain in-depth and well-founded knowledge. The results obtained enable to identify measures that can be taken by the Se-curity Forces, in Portugal, ensuring a better public service
