Against the backdrop of the question of divine predestination, this study aims to draw attention to some "Lives" of Portuguese religious women, written between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in which the topic of grace and divine election works as a structural aspect of all narrative discourse. This study also seeks to show how the authors of these narratives in order to attract the attention of readers - who, by this time, still appreciate the scale of the wonderful, despite the criticism that had been targeted - resorted to such topics as the attractive marriage proposals presented by the parents of the protagonists, to reaffirm not only the question of predestination, as well as the obstinacy of these young girls to follow the religious life. This study also seeks to highlight how the convent ends up to state and function as a space of a very 'special' freedom for religious women, despite the confinement to which they were bound.
