The necessity in comprehending the physiological systems that regulate the appetite has increased considerably during the last decade, while the mechanisms of appetite control have been studied, focusing mainly on the hypothalamus functions, regulating the metabolic aspect of the diet. The systems of appetite control are much more inclined to the storage of energy rather than to the loss of weight, as the difficulties in losing weight are well known and how the “cognitive brain” wins over the “metabolic brain”. Sometimes the problems with the adjustment of the appetite may lead to pathologies associated to eating disorders, such as obesity, anorexia and bulimia. For this, it is necessary to adopt changes in one’s lifestyle, as it may be necessary to turn to pharmacologic treatment (pharmaceutical stimulators of the appetite or appetite inhibitors). For a better understanding of these aspects, an inquiry was applied to 50 users of a pharmacy, consisting of a series of questions referring to the socio-demographic data of the users, as well as their body composition, their clinical data, their eating habits, their sleeping habits and their habits regarding practising physical exercise (explainable variables), in order to correlate them with the difficulty in the adjustment of their appetite and the utilization of pharmaceuticals for such (variable answers). The sample is constituted by 70% (35) women and 30% (15) men, with ages between 25 and 87; as 20 of these people demonstrated having problems with adjusting their appetite, of which 7 admitted taking medication for the effect. Via the interpretation and analysis of the data gathered, the Pearson product-moment correlation test was performed demonstrating that there was only a positive linear correlation relative to the difficulty in adjusting the appetite and the body mass index. This factor may be related to the results obtained for the medium sampling BMI, indicating that the sample is overweight. The results gathered show this occurrence, whereas we take into account that the BMI that is used for an individual which is overweight is over 25 and less than 30 kg/m2, we can verify that 40% of the people polled were overweight; as in 32% presented a normal BMI (>18,5<25 kg/m2 ) and 28 % were obese (IMC≥30 kg/m2 ). Thus, we could observed that the sample presented did not carry out a healthy lifestyle, and adding their diet, in turn this leads to problems with the adjustment of their appetite. The necessity in comprehending the physiological systems that regulate the appetite has increased considerably during the last decade, while the mechanisms of appetite control have been studied, focusing mainly on the hypothalamus functions, regulating the metabolic aspect of the diet.
