In this communication we shall report how the project Ecomuseu do Barroso was conceived as a museum in the territory assuming a strong involvement of local populations and institutions in the process of valuation of assets and natural and cultural resources that the region, taking as a element of importance for the development strategy of the municipality, part of the development strategy itself from the Alto Tâmega. We will also emphasize how the project Ecomuseu do Barroso implemented a set of skills and a set of targets that confer the status of the anchor element in a strategy for integrated and sustained development of the municipality and the region. Thus, the Ecomuseu do Barroso should be constituted in terms of plan, such as training space, space of representation of identity, space resource of development and heritage, space for consultation and inter-institutional cooperation, participation and citizenship and space for innovation and mobilization of new activities. We will show the multidimensional nature of Ecomuseu do Barroso giving it an exemplary nature in terms of the relationship between heritage and development, take a leading role of different components of this regional reality, based on the diversity of resources and activities which may include - natural resources, cultural resources, built heritage and habitat, traditional know-how, innovation capacity, promote the activities and services provided.
