Resumo: | In this short essay, I tried to reflect on the presence of the classics in contemporary Portuguese literature, choosing two important names from our modernity: Agustina and Saramago. Although the processes used are dissimilar, the fact is that it is not very difficult to find the common matrix and it is nonetheless attractive to detect the subtlety and the transparency of the statements. If Saramago is completely explicit, in Agustina there are more complex ways of signifying the eternal return of ghosts, no longer individual ones, but collective, meaning the constant relationships established to construct a well-defined strategy of explaining the present, using a sharp irony and a parody concealed under the cover of the most elementary explanation. The characters are like actors of a changing world; in Ordens Menores they are identified with those of ancient times representing the mask and the simulacrum of the present; in A Caverna we assist to the presentation of a universe that hyperbolically accentuates the characteristics of a present that destroys the individual initiative. |
