Resumo: The architecture of self-sufficient comunities is a very dense topic. This type of housing often functioned autonomously, presenting some particular characteristics that favored the functionality of the spaces, and at the same time, maintained their relationship with the general urban context. In addition, the question of living in a community was often answered through the creation of common spaces that helped in the lives of those who lived there. Living in a collective space can be very challenging, and throughout the different seasons, different barriers are overcome, to assist in the ideal construction of this type of housing. This passage in time will be approached in 3 moments, presented by 5 remarkable works for the architecture of self-sufficient societies. The present dissertation consists of the framework of the object of study, which is the Housing Unit of Marseille, taking into account the background that influenced the construction of the project of this building. Thus, a bibliographic review is carried out relating architecture and ways of living in self-sufficient communities based, above all, on the perspective of 7 authors. Christy Anderson, Carlos Martí, Leonardo Benévolo, Stanislaus Von Moos, Xavier Monteys, Wolfgang Braunfels, and Le Corbusier himself. This is a basic research work, in which, at first, a qualitative approach will be made to this housing system, which can allow us to fill in a chronology of the corresponding mistakes and adjustments over the several decades. Through a comparative analysis between the different works, we will be able to observe how this way of inhabiting, many times, prospered and spread.
