Sé de Braga - “reflexões para a valorização da herança religiosa e patrimonial”Dissertação de mestrado em Património e Turismo.O estudo analisa, com base no contexto histórico e religioso da Sé Primacial de Braga, a tipologia de gestão vigente, em termos patrimoniais, de ordenamento de espaços e ao nível do regime interno. Paralelamente, trata a problemática do turismo em espaços religiosos como uma modernidade para a qual urge uma estratégia de acção efectiva e pró-activa, embora no pleno respeito das relações do monumento com o seu contexto religioso e comunidade local. De facto, a Sociedade do Lazer procura estes espaços como locais de contemplação e ócio, motivada por um espírito diferente do religioso e mais ligado à fruição e interpretação patrimonial, decorrentes do valor de antiguidade, histórico, rememorativo e de arte, e também na perspectiva de um novo uso que confira ao monumento um valor de contemporaneidade e autenticidade. O entendimento desta nova realidade e a subsequente adopção de estratégia diferente, passa indubitavelmente pela análise de contextos históricos e das actuais relações do Estado com a Igreja. Em especial no que concerne a propriedade e usufruto dos bens patrimoniais de inspiração eclesial, que foram afectados pelo complexo processo legislativo (Leis de 1770, 1834 e 1911), que se concretizou no desmantelamento de corporações e de estabelecimentos religiosos e na incorporação dos mesmos na Fazenda Nacional. Assim como do processo de reconciliação encetado com a Concordata de 1940. Todo este contexto deixou marcas que podem explicar algumas atitudes, acções e políticas existentes no relacionamento entre estas Entidades. Em termos de arquitectura metodológica o estudo contempla 4 partes, sequenciais e complementares, decorrentes da organização definida aquando dos estudos e leituras exploratórias e do processo de construção do trabalho, bem como das observações e efectuadas no âmbito do mesmo. A primeira parte do trabalho esboça uma perspectiva, em termos conceptuais, dos temas que serão desenvolvidos, nomeadamente as temáticas relacionadas com o valor do património para as sociedades actuais, as relações entre o Estado e a Igreja, o novo culto dos monumentos, as diferentes formas de pensar o património, e o papel do turismo na recuperação e salvaguarda dos valores históricos. Analisamos também as dificuldades em conciliar estas diversas sensibilidades em espaços emblemáticos como a Sé de Braga. O conjunto destas temáticas será o fio condutor da construção e validação do conteúdo do trabalho. A segunda parte do trabalho denominada a “Sé no Tempo, na Sociedade e na Herança”, divide-se em 4 capítulos exploratórios sobre a dimensão da Sé enquanto espaço de grande tradição histórica, religiosa e eclesiástica e como ponto central do desenvolvimento da cidade de Braga. O primeiro capítulo é dedicado à dimensão histórica da Sé. O segundo capítulo, apresenta, a Sé como Herança Patrimonial e Religiosa e símbolo maior de identidade da cidade, Diocese e Nação. O terceiro capítulo, desta segunda parte do trabalho, explora e disserta sobre as relações da Sé com o imaginário local e o cristianismo popular e quais as interacções resultantes nos espaços da Sé. O último capítulo desta parte, demonstra a riqueza histórica, eclesial, religiosa e patrimonial deste monumento, abordando a temática das peregrinações, bem como as políticas que, ao longo dos séculos, os prelados promoveram para motivar este fluxo. Trata ainda o posicionamento do Cabido da Sé face às motivações dos novos peregrinos: os do património e da contemplação pelo lazer. Posteriormente, na terceira parte do trabalho, faz-se uma primeira incursão, ainda que exploratória, sobre o Regime interno na Sé de Braga e a adaptabilidade do mesmo às motivações da sociedade do lazer e do novo culto dos monumentos. Esta terceira parte divide-se, em três capítulos. No primeiro abordamos a posição da Igreja relativamente às novas tendências da Sociedade do Lazer. Questiona-se, ainda, o facto de esta entidade ser, tradicionalmente, adversa à mudança, e por isso tendencialmente desenquadrada dos valores da sociedade actual produtora de narrativas do passado e faminta de mudança. Indaga-se, também, a política legislativa da Igreja para promover a conciliação do Culto com o turismo nos espaços religiosos. Desenvolve-se, ainda, uma análise à fruição dos espaços religiosos e sobre o papel da Igreja no contexto da museologia, centrado no exemplo do museu da Sé. Este capítulo termina com um breve ensaio sobre a abertura da Igreja para as novas formas de gestão patrimonial. O segundo capítulo, desta terceira parte, centra-se, em exclusivo, na análise da temática da conciliação das motivações do fruidor turístico e patrimonial com o fruidor religioso, com o crente. Neste capítulo discutem-se os condicionalismos que cada tipologia de público encontra no espaço da Sé e quais as melhores formas de concertar estas motivações. Por último avança-se com uma caracterização sumária do perfil de cada um dos públicos do espaço. No capítulo terceiro faz-se uma reflexão, decorrente das conclusões dos capítulos anteriores, sobre a problemática das interpretações diferentes da Estrutura Material e Espiritual, Monumento Autêntico e Monumento Turístico, bem como dos riscos inerentes ao facto de o monumento se tornar em um “não-lugar”, sem “espírito” e sem ligação à comunidade local. Conclui-se esta parte com uma análise do impacte do turismo na identidade patrimonial e religiosa da Sé. A última parte do trabalho centra-se na temática do turismo em espaços religiosos, através de uma reflexão sobre o caso específico da Sé de Braga. Esta parte divide-se em 2 capítulos. O primeiro discute a necessidade de se definirem novos modelos de gestão tendo em conta as especificidades do monumento em termos espaciais e emocionais. Propõe modelos de valorização do património eclesiástico e religioso, sublinhando a necessidade de contemplar o turismo no ordenamento destes espaços, pois este é uma realidade, embora ouvindo a comunidade local em todas as decisões relacionadas com o monumento. Este capítulo faz uma comparação, ainda que critica, com o modelo aplicado em Santiago de Compostela. No último capítulo apresenta-se uma reflexão sobre a melhoria das condições de visita e leitura da herança patrimonial e religiosa da Sé de Braga, propondo novos caminhos de gestão do monumento e respectivo regime interno. Sugerem-se novas linhas de leitura, bem como alterações aos circuitos de visita. Por último, avança com um modelo que permita inserir a Sé numa política de comunicação, baseada em princípios de marketing e de merchandising, capazes de valorizar a Sé de Braga e favorecer a comunidade local. O trabalho é rematado por uma série de considerações finais, relativas às temáticas discutidas ao longo do mesmo.The present work is an assignment trying to show you differently some aspects of the Cathedral of Braga, a monument containing important messages, not only of Braga, but also of the Portuguese Nation. The main purpose is to present you the actual form of administration of this monument, based on its historical and religious context, but considering its patrimonial organization, either at the level of its location or its inner general regime. A simple trial to approach the tourist issue in religious buildings and spaces, aiming to reform in a modern way, an effective and active strategy that urges to remodel the minds of either those who own and deal with such monuments or the people who wants to know and feel them more deeply. In the present and as an emerging society of leisure that we are now, seeking for spaces of meditation, mainly in a cultural spirit and less religious, and trying to enjoy, live and understand its values of historical and artistic antiquity. However, in order to understand this new reality and the adoption of new strategies we must know, not only the historical, but also the actual context of relationship between the State and the Church concerning the rights of ecclesiastical property which were affected by the Government, through a complex process of administration (laws of 1770, 1834 and 1911) which lead to the demolishing of religious establishments, as a result of its incorporation in the National Treasure or Private Companies, including the concordat of 1940 and its process of reconciliation. This explains some peculiar actions and political attitudes between the two Entities. In terms of architectural methodology, this essay is divided into four sequential and complementary parts occurring in a defined organization of our studies, readings and searchings (essay definition, observation and experiments). Part one: gives you a conceptual perspective of all the themes developed, such as those related to the patrimonial values in our society, relationship between state and church, new cult of monuments, different ways of facing the (heritage) and the role of tourism in its recovery and safety, as well as the difficulties in coping with different feelings or sensitivities, concerning landmarks such as the cathedral of Braga. This assignment is in fact the content of the whole of these discussing points and so, a reference of all the methods used to our achievement. Part two: nominated “the cathedral – an heritage in our time and society”. It’ s divided in four chapters exploring the dimensions of the cathedral, as a place of great tradition either historical, religious and ecclesiastical, as well as a developing centre of the city of Braga throughout the centuries. In the first chapter this study talks about historical facts. In the second chapter, the cathedral is presented as a patrimonial and religious heritage and so, the greatest identity symbol of the city, the diocese and the nation in general. In the third chapter of this second part, we explore and debate the relationship between the cathedral, imaginary premises and Christian faith and its interactions. The last chapter shows the patrimonial, religious and ecclesiastical richness of this monument and tells about pilgrimages, a strong theme increased along the centuries by the church, in order to link this cathedral to the main Pilgrim Centres regional or wide- world. Here, a special attention to the position of the Cathedral itself over the new pilgrims ideals – patrimony, meditation and leisure. The third part of this assignment, contains a brief allusion to the inner administration system enforced in the Cathedral and its adaptability to actual society of leisure and new cult of monuments. This one is divided in three chapters. The first part, questions the attitude of the church /traditional entity towards the new trends of leisure society and all the difficulties and obstacles raised to fight against the introduction of new ideals. Thus, considering an old fashioned “Church”, living in the past but longing for a change. Here, a word to the legislative structure of the church in order to promote its conciliation with tourism in religious spaces. Finally, an analysis to the usufruct of religious basis and a final note concerning the role of the church in the context of museums taking as example the Museum of the Cathedral. This chapter ends with a first approach appealing to a wider public opening of the church to new systems of patrimonial administration. The second chapter of this third part is exclusively based on the analysis of the theme referring the conciliation of the patrimonial motivation of the tourists/users and the religious/users (commonly the faithfuls). Here the obstacles shown by each type of public in the cathedral and different ways to deal with them in order to find a way out. A psychological study of the visitors in this space is presented here briefly. The third chapter of this part is a thought, resuming the conclusions of the different chapters, or a reflexion on different interpretations of spiritual and material structure, “real monument” and “tourist monument” and all the dangers that might turn the monument in a “non-special” without “spirit” but linked to local community. As a conclusion a few words concerning the impact of tourism in the religious and patrimonial identity of the cathedral. The final part of this assignment focalises the main theme which is “tourism in religious basis centred in the Cathedral of Braga”. This is also divided in two chapters. The first one based on the urgent need of defining new administration models for the Cathedral considering always the particularities of the Monuments either emotionally or spatially. It points out new valuation models related to religious and ecclesiastic patrimony and the need of considering the tourism issue in such spaces, which is now a reality, pointing to consider the advice of local community in all the decisions to be taken in the Cathedral itself. A critical and curious comparison is made here, calling the attention to the administration system adopted in Compostela/ Spain. The last chapter calls the attention to increase better conditions of visiting and understanding the religious and patrimonial heritage of the Cathedral of Braga, showing new models of inner administration, new interpretation models and new circuits of visiting. Finally, a challenge in order to bring here new principals of communication based on modern merchandising and marketing rules aiming to improve the Cathedral of Braga, in favour of local community.
