Resumo: | Health has limited resources for unlimited needs, hence prioritizing investment and resource allocation is a daily challenge. It is of the utmost importance that health remains accessible to all who need it in an equitably way, and that the health system remains sustainable.Taking into account health expenditure we can say that hospital resources absorb a large part of the budget, being an urgent need to manage them efficiently. The hospital bed is one of the most expensive and, at the same time, scarce resources. Therefore, we approached the different bed management methodologies, as well as the different ways of studying their impact on the performance of different hospital services. We conclude that although there is still room for more directed research the most current trends indicate that simulation methodologies are the most efficient in predicting hospital bed needs and, therefore, will be an important tool for this operation.Considering hospital financing models and health efficiency criteria, a simpler use model is proposed than simulation models, considering that their applicability is preferable to a high degree of accuracy of the forecasts. The use of queuing theory to predict needs and the use of the Gantt Map as a tool to assist in the operation of bed management is suggested. The aim is to raise awareness of the need for systematic and supported bed management with scientific tools that reduce variability in this operation so that resources are applied to the real needs. The expected result is that with the same resources more hospitalizations and more surgeries can be obtained, maintaining (or even improving) the quality of health care provided. |
