Resumo: Background: In a person with an intestinal elimination ostomy, parastomal hernia is a frequent late complication with quality of life implications. Objectives: To describe nursing interventions that reduce the risk of developing paraestomal hernia in people with intestinal elimination ostomy. Methodology: The research is an integrative literature review of scientific articles published between January 2015 and December 2020, according to the PICO methodology, in the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) databases, accessible through the scientific content aggregator EBSCOhost web, of which five met the inclusion criteria. Main topics under analysis: The themes that emerged in the search for knowledge were the importance of identifying risk factors, marking the stoma location, physical exercise, supportive clothing, and health education. Conclusion: The stoma care nurse should advice the person with an ostomy for modifiable risk factors, making them aware and part of the process. Additional research is considered necessary for strategies to reduce the incidence of parastomal hernia.
