Resumo: Many symposia and publications recalling the work of Theodor Fontane we're organized to commemorate the bicentenary of his birth. These studies revealed a new critical trend: the focus on the modernity traces of some of the German writer's novels. In this work we too will show the modernity in the treatment given to the motive of adultery both in terms of diegetic development and of the solutions applied to open the text to a pluriperspective interpretation helping to justify and absolve the woman.
