Resumo: The A.A. describe the case of a young femalepatient presenting with the clinical features ofAIDS and persistently negative HIV serology.p24 antigen testing and detection of viral RNAby PCR (polymerize chain reaction) confirmedthe diagnosis of infection with HIV-1. Her partner was seropositive for HIV-1 infection, bothbeing infected with the same virus, a recombinant between subtypes A and D. The disparitybetween the couple’s test results suggests thepresence of an immunological deficiency thatprevents the formation of antibodies.

O diagnóstico da infecção peloVIH-1 foi feito por determinação do Ag p24 e da carga viral por reacção de polimerizaçãoenzimática em cadeia (PCR). O parceiro sexual da doente era seropositivo para o VIH-1 eambos estavam infectados pelo mesmo vírus,um recombinante entre os subtipos A e D.
