Resumo: Considering the information audit as an activity of the strategic management of an organization, this paper aims to present the definition of the concept, reviewing the definitions of the authors often cited in the literature on this subject. Existing, internationally, the frequent development of this practice known as information audit, we analyse the literature which has served as a guide for development of information auditing processes in different organizations. Finally, we present our proposal of organizing an information audit, based on the existing guidelines for auditing management systems in the organizations.
