Summary: This investigation intends to present the specific problem that occurs in monochromaticart. It also is meant to address the difficulty in its conservation and restoration.Monochromatic Art is a delicate art since its creation. The aesthetic pleasure of mattesurfaces and the rough, unvarnished finishes are characteristic in converting thesemonochromatic pictures into rather fragile pieces.Due to this, the majority of deterioration will appear on the pictorial surface and this willaffect the overall appearance of the piece. Therefore, the restoration process could modifythe surfaces. That returns us to the principle conflict of monochromatic art: the easydeterioration of the artistic concept.

El arte monocromo es un arte delicado desde su creación. El gusto por los acabados mates, las superficies sin preparar, la ausencia de barniz protector, convierten a la mayoría de las obras monocromas en obras extremadamente frágiles. Esto plantea una problemática específica, ya que la mayoría de los deterioros que se produzcan se van a localizar en la superficie pictórica y por lo tanto afectarán a la apariencia de la obra. Asimismo, el proceso de restauración podría conllevar la modificación de las superficies, lo que nos devuelve al principal conflicto con el arte monocromo: el fácil deterioro del concepto artístico.Este estudo tem como objetivo apresentar os problemas específicos colocados pela arte monocromática a complexidade de questões relacionada com a sua conservação e restauro. Arte monocromática é uma arte delicada desde sua criação. O gosto por acabados foscos, superfícies não preparadas e até a falta de verniz de protecção, imprimem aos trabalhos monocromáticos uma maior fragilidade. Isto representa um problema específico, uma vez que a maioria dos danos ocorrem na superfície pictórica, afectando por isso a aparência do trabalho.
